  • The ethics committee was established, so that a quality and consistent ethical review mechanism is present for the research proposals submitted.

  • The ethics committee provides independent guidance and advice for health research .

  • The ethics committee analyses

  1. Research projects of faculties, post graduate and undergraduate students of Govt Stanley medical college,

  2. Non therapeutic and non interventional studies

  3. Clinical trials

  • The ethics committee  will take care that, all the cardinal principles of research ethics viz Autonomy , benefecience,non maleficience and justice , are taken care in research protocols.

  • Will discuss about the SAE s , if any and send detailed report to the DCGI

  • The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) Stanley is Registered with register number 294/CPCSEA since December 2000 and registration renewed on 17.11.2016 under The Government of India, Ministry of Environments, Forests and Climate Change, Animal Welfare Division, Office of Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA)

ADVERSE EVENTS MONITORING CENTER

Department of Pharmacology,

Govt. Stanley Medical College -Chennai.

 

  • Govt. Stanley Medical College was approved by Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) in October 2016 for carrying out the Pharmacovigilance Activities.
  • Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare which sets standards for drugs, Vaccines and Biological products.
  • IPC is functioning as a National Coordination Centre (NCC) for Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI).
  • The main responsibility of NCC is to monitor all the adverse reactions of medicines being observed in the Indian population and to develop and maintain its own Pharmacovigilance database.
  • At PVPI - AMC, the designated Centre Coordinator is responsible for the properFunctioning of AMC.
  • In absence of the coordinator, the designated Deputy coordinator is responsible for the smooth functioning of the centre.
  • The Pharmacovigilance Associateappointed by NCC is responsible forthe collection, validation of ADR’s and entering the same in the VigiFlowsoftware.
  • The collected data is sent to the National Pharmacovigilance Centre for onward transmission to Uppsala Monitoring Centre at Sweden ( World Health Organisation )

FUNCTIONING COMMITTEES:

There are two committees functioning under Pharmacovigilance programme in our AMC,

  1. Pharmacovigilance Committee:

Pharmacovigilance Committee includes HOD’s of various Departments.

  • The Chairperson is the Dean of Stanley Medical College.
  • The Committee assembles and discusses about the recent Updates from PVPI and Necessary improvements to be implemented regarding the PV activities within and out of AMC.
  • Newsletters and Drug alerts from PVPI will be discussed in the meeting.
  1. Causality Assessment Committee:

      Causality Assessment Committee has members of 4 persons.

  1. Dr.R.Sivgami,Associate Professor of Pharmacology-Chairman& Coordinator.
  2. Dr.I.Rohini-Clinician – General Medicine.
  3. Dr.Thamayanthi -Pharmacologist – Deputy Coordinator
  4. Dr.C.Stalin-Pharmacovigilance Associate (PVPI).

The committee assembles twice in a month preferably 15 days once and perform the Causality Assessment for Reported ADR’s as per WHO causality Assessment Scale.
